LowCountry Institute
The mission of the LowCountry Institute is to provide responsible leadership in the conservation and use of Lowcountry natural resources – its biodiversity, pristine waters and ecological landscapes – by fostering learning opportunities and helping local policymakers, landowners and residents make informed decisions. The LowCountry Institute is a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization.

SC Department of Natural Resources
Under the S.C. Restructuring Act of 1994, the agency comprises the former Wildlife and Marine Resources Department, Water Resources Commission (non-regulatory programs), Land Resources Commission (non-regulatory programs), State Geological Survey (State Geologist), and S.C. Migratory Waterfowl Committee. These have been combined into the present division structure. The department has developed a vision for the future to guide the agency in its mission and provide the public with a clear understanding of its plan to preserve South Carolina’s natural wealth.

Beaufort County Open Land Trust
The Beaufort County Open Land Trust is a private, nonprofit, tax-exempt organization. Due to increasing population and development, the integrity of our natural ecosystems is threatened. We permanently protect land by working with private citizens and communities. The Trust accepts donations of properties and helps landowners establish legal restrictions that limit harmful use and development. To carry out its purpose, the Trust acquires strategically important parcels, negotiates appropriate agreements, seeks financial support and promotes public interest in and awareness of the Lowcountry environment.

Beaufort County Schools
The Beaufort County School District, through a personalized learning approach, prepares graduates to compete and succeed in an ever-changing global society and career marketplace. We work with families and our diverse community to ensure that students perform at an internationally competitive level in a learning environment that is safe, nurturing and engaging. The School District serves more than 21,000 students in pre-K through 12th grade, offering a variety of learning opportunities in 31 schools.

Waddell Mariculture Center
The Waddell Mariculture Center is a S.C. Department of Natural Resources field experiment station and is one of the country’s largest and most sophisticated facilities for mariculture research. It was constructed in 1983-84 to develop propagation and farming techniques for marine and brackish water species of finfish, mollusks, crustaceans and plants. The center’s large physical plant allows researchers to expand promising laboratory work to commercial scale.

University of South Carolina Beaufort
The University of South Carolina Beaufort responds to regional needs, draws upon regional strengths, and prepares graduates to contribute locally, nationally and internationally with its mission of teaching, research and service. USCB is a senior baccalaureate campus (1,400 to 3,000 students) in the state’s largest public university system. It offers degree programs in the arts, humanities, professions, and social and natural sciences delivered through onsite instruction and distance education, along with an active program of co-curricular activities and athletics. It serves a racially and culturally diverse student body, including military personnel, veterans and their dependents, and draws students from the South Carolina Lowcountry, around the country and around the world. USCB enriches the quality of life for area residents of all ages through its academic programs, continuing education, artistic and cultural offerings, community outreach, collaborations with regional initiatives and life-long learning opportunities.
